With the school year just around the corner, the American Academy of Pediatrics says it’s more important than ever for children to catch up on routine vaccinations & well-child checkups.

Around the country, decreasing rates of measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccines have put some communities at high risk for a measles outbreak.

The rate of MMR vaccines among Pennsylvania kindergartners has been gradually declining, falling below the 95% vaccination coverage target—much lower in some counties—for the first time in the past six years. Nearly 8,000 kindergarteners were not up to date on their MMR vaccines during the 2022-2023 school year, a number that has doubled since the 2017-2018 school year.
