“We were pushing the administration pretty heavily starting about this time last year” to apply for a waiver to give kids multi-year Medicaid enrollment,” said Becky Ludwick, vice president for policy at the PA Partnerships for Children.
“Pennsylvania is one of about ten states now that have gotten or are seeking this,” Ludwick said, and “I think it’s great to see Pennsylvania as one of the leaders in this.”
The topics addressed in Pennsylvania’s waiver are often referred to as ‘social determinants of health,’ the idea being that problems such as poor nutrition, housing instability, and inconsistent pediatric care lead to much larger – and costlier – health issues later in a person’s life.
